The Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Clinic has for over two decades been providing comprehensive,
high quality diagnostic and treatment services for children, teens and
adults with attention deficit disorders. The clinic's professionals are
trained in differential diagnosis and in treatment models that allow them to
tailor the clinic's services to clients' specific needs.
Evaluation Services:
The Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Clinic's diagnostic evaluations include comprehensive clinical
interviews, objective assessments of individuals' functioning across
multiple settings, and computer-based tests of individuals' attention and
response patterns under controlled conditions. The diagnostic information is
evaluated by the America Psychiatric Association's diagnostic standards for
Attention Deficit Disorders, and treatment plans are generated in
collaboration with clients.
Treatment Services:
Treatment plans are
designed for each individual, but common programs for many adults frequently
include education and training on the nature of ADHD and its typical impact
on adult life. Treatment programs also typically assist clients with
improving organizational and other self-management skills, and with
developing strategies for enhancing job-related functioning, as well as
improving interpersonal relationships.
Treatment plans for
children and teens are also individually developed but are typically done so
in collaboration with parents. In addition to helping children and teens
themselves understand ADHD and its impact on their functioning,
professionals at the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Clinic also present
group and individual training programs for parents to help them help their
children and teens with ADHD. The clinic currently offers two
parent-training and treatment programs to meet these goals.
The first program is
designed for parents of children between the ages of 5 and 12. It serves to
train parents in effective behavior management, the proper use of incentives
to encourage desired behavior, the proper use of time-out and other
disciplinary strategies, effective ways to communicate with schools, and
effective strategies to manage their children's behavior in public places.
The second program is
designed for parents of teens between the ages of 13 and 18. It serves to
train parents in the sources of teen misconduct, the effective use of
incentives and contracts to encourage desired behavior, the proper use of
grounding and other disciplinary methods, effective school advocacy, and
extensive parent-teen communication training to improve the overall quality
of family interactions.
Psychiatric Services:
The Attention-Deficit
Hyperactivity Clinic also make consulting psychiatric services available for
clients who may need assistance with medications appropriate for the
reduction and management of the symptoms of ADHD. |
